On Wednesday, January 13th, our 8th Grade Independent Research students showcased their projects, the culmination of weeks of thoughtful inquiry and preparation. This experience is designed to move students beyond a traditional “book report” and instead engage deeply in the curiosity and communication pillars of the Monroe Vision of the Graduate.

For the research component, students developed clear and insightful research questions rooted in personal interest. They investigated multiple credible sources, considered different perspectives, and applied their learning to real-world contexts by connecting their research to their own lives or the broader community.

The presentation component emphasized communication. Students used their research to build clear, evidence-based arguments and engage classmates in thoughtful discussion. Throughout their presentations, students demonstrated their ability to consider multiple perspectives, develop their own informed opinions, and clearly share their findings.

The 8th Grade Independent Research presentations highlighted not only students’ academic growth, but also their ability to think deeply, communicate thoughtfully, and engage meaningfully with others.

Great job to all who presented! We look forward to the next round of second semester presentations in the spring!
